Ms. Elke was at the shelter for her annual visit. She donated money for a ward for old dogs which are no more capable of fighting off stronger dogs. These dogs have been at the shelter for quite some years and as such she has a soft corner for them. Along with this she brought with her dog beds which have been donated for the dog hostel and other material. We have at the present a vet Intern from Holland for a 3 week period. He will be helping my vet.

October 2011 Report

E-mail Print PDF

It was the afternoon time of 8th Oct 2011, a Horse (Mare) was found wondering along with her foal near Khandhari, Agra. The mare seemed to be in a good condition but the foal had a fracture in the hind leg. Somebody provided information about the mare and a foal to Nagar Nigam Agra. They then picked up both the mare and the foal and brought them to PFA Agra. The mother refused to leave the foal and seemed very concerned about her baby. As soon as the vehicle arrived at the hospital both of them were thoroughly checked. On the first day we allowed the foal to rest and provide it with food and water. The next day we prepared the plaster for the hind leg of the foal. We had to restrain the foal so we gave it an injection to anaesthetize it. Then we stretched the leg of the foal and applied the plaster. As a supportive therapy we gave it a pain killer, multivitamins and drips.  Throughout the treatment the mother hovered around its baby and never left it alone.

This was a difficult case for us as the mare was a real fighter. Since the mare never left the foal, and it didn't allow anyone to come near her baby, we had to separate the two in order to be able to treat the foal. This was difficult and one of our helpers was injured during this process. After the treatment, we definitely united the two together again. PFA Agra thanks its staff for their persistence in treating the foal. Hopefully the leg will heal and it will be able to bear the weight.

Truly, LOVE is an emotion not only limited to humans.

I am sorry I did not realize that I had not sent the report for Sept. I am sending both together.

We were fortunate enough to have members of the Jain community donate food for animals. They were impressed by the work we do and have promised to help in the future too. This food is enough to last a month.

Ms. Alison the wife of the manager of Hotel Amar Vilas too visited our shelter. She liked what she saw. She is trying to get the hotel to contribute.

The DFO of Agra  had called a meeting of all animal NGOs. It was a meeting wherein all the NGOs and the forest deptt. come under one grid and we know each other and can contact each other when a problem reqd. They were also planning a lecture for the people of Bateshwar where the fair is held. He is planning a meeting every alternate month to keep all updated.

Carolien of Holland is sending 3 students from Holland for internship to PFA Agra. They are coming on 11th Nov. I am getting their residence prepared. They are paying for their boarding and lodging. If this venture is a success then it will continue and PFA Agra will have some steady income plus helpers.

The  construction of the dog shelter and the monkey ward were at a stand still because of Diwali and Id. It will again start  after Id.

I have recd. a letter from Shri Naqvi stating that he has sent a grant for Rs. 3 lacs. to PFA Agra for the construction of Bird ward.

This is quite a windfall for us.
In Holland the Foundation for World Animals is hosting a beneficiary dinner for PFA Agra and IPan both of which they have adopted. Ms Elke Winkler (Germany), who is a regular visitor to PFA Agra and Kathrin (Holland), who was a volunteer here for 4 months as also my daughter residing in Belgium will be giving a presentation on behalf of PFA Agra.
