PFA Uttar Dinajpur - Rescued 3 spectacled cobras, an eagle and a wild cat

albums/pfa-uttar-dinajpurPFA Uttar Dinajpur Team successfully rescued  three spectacled cobras, one eagle and one wild cat from various places of Raiganj. Two Cobras which were found in a poultry farm were rescued from Bogram village and one cobra from a villager's  house at Abdulghata.  We have released the snakes in jungle, far away from human habitat. We also rescued a wild cat from a TV Reporter Himangshu Das's house at Birnagar, Raiganj. The wild cat was rescued, almost dead. We  treated it with the help of a vet. surgeon Dr Subhas Choudhury but it ultimately succumbed to its injury. The eagle was rescued from Sudarsanpur. It has got an injury in one of its wings. It is being treated by us in  our temporary shelter. It is now better than before. The  media have covered  the news. [Image Gallery]

PFA Uttar Dinajpur - Campaign Against Animal Sacrifice

They distributed leaflets and posters and  pasted them in and around the temples where animal-sacrifices are done. They persuaded the SDO of Raiganj Smt Aditi Dasgupta to sent a letter of request to the temple authority of Baira Kalimata to disallow animal-sacrifices at their premises. PFA Uttar Dinajpur- Rescued A Rare Snake

ref gallery pfa uttar dinajpurPFA member Nabonita Upadhyay, with the help of willing member Totan Das rescued a very rare specis of  snake from Ghoshpukur Tea Garden area, near Siliguri. It was handed over to Islampur Forest Office and released in Sapnikla Forest, Islampur, Uttar Dinajpur. The snake is about  3.5 feet long and pink in colour, rarely found in West Bengal. Its name is unknown to us.

We expect to get a fund of Rs one lakh for this celebration. We have already applied for this fund and have to keep pursuing . We will inform you if we really get the fund . That is why we took this initiative to orgaise Vivekananda Utsab or Mela with a view to get the fund and make a massive campaigning on PFA ideals on this occasion. [Image Gallery]

PFA Uttardinajpur - Rescued Two Gangetic Dolphins

albums/pfa-uttar-dinajpurPFA Uttardinajpur rescued two Gangetic dolphins from the shallow water of the Dock river, at Baldihata of Kishanganj, Bihar and  released in Mahananda river at Thakurganj.
Both of the dolphins were female, measuring 2.5 meters and 2.8 meters respectively. There were thousands of curious people gathered at the river side to see the rescue  work. Dr. Gopal Sharma, officer incharge, Gangetic Plains Regional Centre of Zoological Survey of India and Mr Subrata Paul Chowdhury, wildlife experts who actually made the plan how to rescue, were present during the operation. PFA Uttardinajpur members along with Mr Bhim Narayan Mitra, Nabonita Upadhyay, Mintu Das and other 10 PFA members were present. 20 fishermen were employed for this work and the dolphins were transported to Mahananda River 20 kms away in a truck with proper arrangement. According to the wildlife experts and the forest dept. officials the dolphin measuring 2.8 meters was the biggest to have ever rescued in India. However, all the PFA members pleased that we have at last been able to save the dolphins with Mrs. Maneka Gandhi interference and suitable instruction to the Divisional Forest Officers of Bihar and Bengal. ref galllery pfa uttar dinajpurDuring the observation of the Wild Life Week in Islampur, a big Daras snake was rescued by PFA member Nabonita Upadhaya from  Milanpally High School. A street dog that fell into a high drain was rescued  and treated by PFA members Nabonita Upadhaya and Mr Sanjay Das in Islampur. A cow was abandoned by its owner as it one of its legs was amputated after an accident. The owner left it in vet. hospital. When we protested against it and threatened the owner to flle an F I R, he agreed to take it back. The cow is now in his possession and we are keeping a watch on it.

pfa uttar dinajpurA very poisonous snake (Gokhura) was rescued in Islampur from a locality by PFA members Nabonita Upadhaya and Sanjay Das with the help of a snake catching expert. The Banya Pran Saptaha ( Wild Life Week) was organized by PFA Uttar Dinjapur with the help of Islapur Fortest Department  from 20th Dec. -26th Dec.,2011.  PFA members Ayub Ali, Nabonita Upadhaya, Sanjay Das and Mintu Das delivered short speeches on this occasion. Many school children  too took part in this programme. A rally was taken out and leaflets containing  Animal Protection laws were distributed among people.

  • A dove attacked by crows, was treated. After 2 to 3 days effort we have been able to find its parents and make its re-union with them. It was a very pleasant experience for us. The bird was rescued in a high school.

  • A severely wounded ox was treated by PFA members of Uttar Dinajpur with the help of vet. doctor.
